Deep violets and a Day bed!

Casual, relaxed, capturing elegant simplicity and the down to earth charm that is what we always wanted to achieve at home. A world of color, textures, unique décor and warm hospitality too. If you are looking for something like that, you've come to the right place. The furniture at home are  quite simple and old! We love the old fragrance and the old wood and the good old  dents in these furniture.

Our style at home has evolved over the years. As the place is rented..much focus goes for the furniture at our home. I love mixing textures and neutrals but adding just a touch of color and mostly  pastel shades. A pop of colour definitely will be there from the flowers.

The  taste for textures change with seasons'too..And the "day bed" at home has helped me to keep my love for cushions and seasons  at home alive. The day bed also has changed with our priorities..It was the first piece of furniture that we got made .. it didn't have legs and was flat earlier .. and then one Diwali we decided to give it legs to give it some height and elegance.. and on goes the story of the day bed!

Bedspreads, cushion covers or an old quilt thrown on the day bed,  gives a cozy effect to the room. Can you all imagine the deep sense of tranquility and contentment that the day bed brings us?

Always having loved the  unique texture of old natural wood and  the simple details, many months ago we saw a wooden patterned screen in one of the dilapidated corners of the furniture market and the decision was impulsive to get it back home and give it a new life. As the decision was impulsive, the thought next was where to place it? And now there it stands behind the day bed!

To sum up, a small space with its furniture and accessories that has a feeling of simplicity and warmth..An eclectic comfortable space surrounded by warm colours..Absolutely simple in design. 

(Not that we had so much space in our small home..but we didn't want that amazing piece to lose its life in the corner of a market:)

And the Lotus Bloomed on our Wall

On a lazy afternoon,my brother and I had a heated discussion over home makeovers and how to give our home a personal touch. 

Just to prove a point we started doodling on the wall slowly by slowly our scribbles gave way to lines,line to curves and eventually beautiful blossoms became apparent on the walls. 

Here is a photo essay trip down the memory lane..over to the lotus pond.

Here's how it finally looked once completed.

Dreamy eyed and armed with a permanent marker in his hands, my brother, another creative soul in my family.

Little Gaya, who helped us immensely in coloring the art wall smiles proudly in front of our Art Wall. I am sometimes amazed at her refined choice of colors.

Finally, we won our argument and did succeed in giving our home an artistic and personal touch. A weekend and a few cups of tea were all that we needed while we indulged in this passion. I thought of sharing this with you all, just to encourage you to do something creative at your our personal spaces, a splash of color or a stroke of a marker can change the character of the space and speak volumes about the ones living there.

A Come back....

After a long journey,I know how I feel happy to be back here..It took time to get adjusted to the new addition in the family .I personally thank my readers who took time to read my blogs and comment and appreciate them.The enigma and charm of India has always fascinated me and I assure you all to bring out her strengths in all the posts I do.

Antique containers and floral display

Bronze antique containers are an essential part of decor display. The correct choice will enhance the aesthetics .A beautiful floral display in a style and colour that blends with the decor will make any room more attractive.Although almost anything that holds water can be used as a vase for a floral display, the choice of container is only second to the choice of flowers. It is important that the container blends with the decor of the room in size, style and colour.Bronze containers can be used as flower holders for special occassions.Heirloom pieces or reproductions are ideal for arrangements in a traditional style.Having a collection of containers on hand to choose from has always made my job easier for flower displays.These can be assorted and kept in a corner also for better display.

My travels down south,home has always helped me in collecting old brass containers. Some of them are very old and has come from my mom's collections ,which were actually my grandpa's.I have managed to bring in small pieces of them to Delhi,while the bigger and better ones are at home.

I have tried capturing images which display the best moods at home.My home is filled with flowers all the time an these bronze containers are always filled with a stem or a flower and has helped me to bring my memories down south into my interiors in Delhi..Hope you will love all the images...

Captivating Colours and My Living Room

A Contemporary Interior manages to incorporate the traditional elements while maintaining a fresh appeal.At home we try to incorporate the traditional elements to a great extent ....

Flowers are found everywhere in India-strewn before visiting guests ,offered at altars in homes and temples and lines up or centred on the dinner table for natural adornment.The vibrant hues of the petals are used to shower a room with radiance or simply to introduce some enlivening accents.Either way the assertive combination conveys exuberance and energy..

Furniture at our home has been limited to a few pieces.One of these is the "bajot" a typical low table found throughout in India.This has been pressed into service by us as a centre table or sometimes as a handsome resting spot for favourite objects,such as urulis,a bowl of roses,or a bowl filled with fragrant petals or an inlaid box or sometimes serve tea too...
